Diane Keaton, Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall, dies at 79

ISTANBUL (AA) - Diane Keaton, the Academy Award–winning actress celebrated for her offbeat wit, timeless style, and a career spanning over a hundred film and television roles, has died at 79, The New York Times reported Saturday.

Her death was confirmed by producer Dori Rath, who worked on several of Keaton’s later projects. Rath did not disclose the location, time, or cause of death, according to The Times.

Keaton rose to fame with her performance in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall (1977), earning an Oscar for best actress.

Her portrayal of the charmingly neurotic New Yorker -- with her “men’s wear” fashion and “questionable driving skills,” as The Times recalled -- became a cultural touchstone.

Reflecting on her iconic Oscar-night outfit in her 2014 memoir Then Again, Keaton described it as “my ‘la-de-da’ layered get-up.”

Her career balanced sharp comedies like Sleeper and The First Wives Club with acclaimed dramas including The Godfather and Marvin’s Room.

She earned three additional Oscar nominations for Reds (1981), “Marvin’s Room” (1993), and Something’s Gotta Give (2003).

The Hollywood Reporter once hailed Keaton as “the consummate actress of our generation,” praising her ability to bring “charm and warmth and spontaneity” to every role.

Beyond acting, Keaton also directed films, including Heaven (1987) and Hanging Up (2000).
