Documentary produced by Anadolu wins top prize at Toronto Independent Short Film Competition

ISTANBUL (AA) - A documentary produced by Anadolu that explores the struggles of polar animals due to climate change won the award for "Best Independent Short Film" at the Toronto Independent Short Film Competition.

The competition, renowned for its evaluation of national and international works, presented awards in nine categories.

“The melting world of polar bears” delves into challenges confronted by polar animals due to climate change, spotlighting efforts of a team involved with Türkiye's 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition and 3rd National Arctic Scientific Research Expeditions.

The expeditions were held under the auspices of the Turkish presidency and coordination of the Marmara Research Center (MAM) Polar Research Institute, which is a part of the Ankara-based Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye (TUBITAK).

The documentary, directed by Anadolu photojournalist Sebnem Coskun, also sheds light on the struggles faced by polar creatures amid global climate shifts, while also exploring potential solutions.

It underlines how polar bears, ringed seals living in the North Pole and emperor penguins living in Antarctica are affected by global climate change.
