Dow closes lower, ending 6-day record rally
Blue-chip index dives 1.29%, S&P 500 falls 0.78%, tech-heavy Nasdaq loses 0.7%; VIX jumps 10%

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed with losses Thursday, putting an end to its record rally.
The blue-chip index, which includes 30 prominent American companies, plummeted 533 points, or 1.29%, to finish the day at 40,665 after closing at record-high levels for six consecutive trading days.
The index climbed to a fresh all-time high of 41,376 points during trading hours on Thursday.
The S&P 500 fell 43 points, or 0.78%, to close at 5,544. The Nasdaq dove 125 points, or 0.7%, to close at nearly 17,871.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 10% to 15.93. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.4% to 4.202%.
The dollar index increased 0.43% to 104.20, while the euro trimmed 0.37% to $1.0896 against the greenback.
Precious metals were on the decline, with gold losing 0.55% to $2,445 per ounce and silver decreasing 1.6% to $29.82.
Oil prices were down around 0.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.78 a barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.85.
