Dow Jones closes at new record ahead of inflation figures
Blue-chip index marks 12th record closing this year

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at a fresh all-time high Monday ahead of the release of key consumer inflation figures.
The blue-chip index rose 125.69 points, or 0.33%, to finish the session at 38,797.38 and marked its 12th record closing this year.
The S&P, on the other hand, shed 4.77 points, or 0.09%, to end the day at 5,021.84. The Nasdaq lost 48.12 points, or 0.30%, to 15,942.55.
Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for January will be released Tuesday at 8.30 a.m. EDT (1330GMT) before the market opening.
After soaring to 9.1% in June 2022, the highest level in more than 40 years, the annual CPI dropped to 3% in June 2023 but climbed to 3.4% in December.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 7.7% to 13.93, while the 10-year US Treasury yield dropped 0.33% to 4.174%.
The dollar index was flat at 104.11, while the euro trimmed 0.07% to $1.0773 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold trimming 0.22% to $2,020 per ounce but silver increasing 0.37% to $22.69.
Oil prices were also mixed, with global benchmark Brent crude losing 0.2% to $82.05 per barrel but US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude increasing 0.2% to $77.02 a barrel.
