Dozens of Just Stop Oil protesters arrested in central London

LONDON (AA) - Police on Monday arrested more than 40 Just Stop Oil protesters in the British capital of London during a slow march.

A group of demonstrators marched along Whitehall, the site of the main British government offices, including the Prime Minister's Office, towards Parliament Square.

Police detained the protesters after they refused to vacate the road.

Later, another group from Just Stop Oil arrived at the scene and police made additional arrests.

"Within 15 minutes we have arrested at least 40 activists who were slow marching," the Metropolitan Police wrote on X.

Following the developments, the group announced to hold a public march on Nov. 18, saying: "We need everyone to stand up to this madness."

Meanwhile, another protest by the group took place early Monday at the National Gallery where two Just Stop Oil activists have been arrested for "criminal damage."

The protesters smashed the protective glass of Rokeby Venus painting at the Gallery.

"Two Just Stop Oil activists have been arrested for criminal damage. The glass protecting a painting at the National Gallery has been vandalised," said the police.
