Dozens stage protest in Dublin over Israel’s war in Gaza

Demonstrators say they can’t sit back and let their government or the international community think they are doing enough

By Huzeyfe Tastan

DUBLIN (AA) - Dozens of people staged a protest Wednesday in Ireland’s capital against Israel’s war in Gaza.

They gathered outside parliament in Dublin and placed various items on the ground representing Palestinian children who have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.

Carrying pro-Palestinian signs, the crowd called on the government to impose sanctions on Israel and to expel Israeli diplomats.

Speaking to Anadolu, Karen Moynihan, a protester, said they cannot sit and watch the "genocide" that is taking place in Gaza.

She said they gathered in the capital to draw attention to what is happening to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Nothing will be enough until Palestine is liberated, she added.

Another protester, Josi Collins, said that as Irish citizens, they know well what Palestinians face under occupation.

Collins, who is a university student in Dublin, said they attended the protest to make sure the Irish government is against what is happening in the besieged enclave and imposes sanctions on Israel.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on Gaza since an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

More than 37,000 Palestinians have since been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, and over 83,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Eight months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered it to immediately halt its operation in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6.
