Ebola cases rise to 65 in Uganda: Health Ministry

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - The number of Ebola cases in Uganda has risen to 65 with confirmed deaths standing at 27, the Health Ministry said Friday.

The figure is up from an Oct. 17 update which indicated there were 58 cases.

The ministry said active cases still in hospital admission were nine while cumulative recoveries increased to 26.

But the government is optimistic that the epidemic will soon end.

“The latest status update from the ministry of health indicates that the epidemic is indeed coming under control,” according to a statement from the Health Ministry.

Ebola was reported Sept. 20 in Uganda with the first case in the district of Mubende, 153 kilometers (95 miles) from the nation’s capital of Kampala.
