Egypt, France discuss relations, regional issues

Egyptian spokesman says meeting focused on Palestinian cause, possibility of reviving peace process, developments in Sudan, Libya

CAIRO, Egypt (AA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna discussed bilateral relations between their countries Thursday along with regional issues of common interest.

Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmad Fahmi said the meeting in Cairo dwelled on developments in the Palestinian cause and the possibility of reviving the peace process, and developments in Sudan and Libya.

Egypt is engaged in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It mediated cease-fire or truce agreements between the Palestinians and Israelis on several occasions.

Egypt is also following closely following developments in neighboring countries Sudan and Libya.

Fahmi said the Egyptian president highlighted Egypt's keenness to increase cooperation with France, especially in technology, transport and energy.

Paris is considered a main supplier of weaponry to Egypt, in addition to the US and Russia.
