ISTANBUL (AA) – The leaders of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Jordan held a four-way Arab summit in the Egyptian city of New Alamein on Tuesday.

The summit was attended by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Bahraini King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Talks between the four leaders took up aspects of mutual cooperation and a host of regional and international issues, a spokesman for Sisi’s office said in a statement.

He said the four leaders reiterated support for efforts aimed at consolidating security, peace, stability and joint cooperation at all levels.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi was scheduled to attend the summit but he cut short his visit to Egypt earlier Tuesday amid protests by supporters of influential cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in the capital Baghdad.

The Alamein summit came one month after a US-Arab summit in Saudi Arabia, which were attended by US President Joe Biden and a host of Arab leaders.
