Hurricanes, storms, floods, volcanic eruptions among numerous natural disasters battering different parts of world

ANKARA (AA) – A range of environmental disasters hit the world in October, mainly heavy rains and floods in the Ivory Coast, China and the US, volcanic eruptions in the Spanish island of La Palma, and deadly landslides in India.
Here is a timeline compiled by Anadolu Agency:
Oct. 1:
- Ashes from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma blanket most of the island in Spain’s Canary Islands.
Oct. 4:
- Tropical Cyclone Shaheen kills at least 13 people in Oman and Iran, while five Iranian fishermen go missing.
Oct. 7:
- At least four people, including a child, are killed due to flooding in the US state of Alabama.
Oct. 11:
- Just months after devastating fires, residents in northern part of Greece's Evia island face the raging storm Athena.
Oct. 12:
- At least 15 people are killed and three others remain missing after incessant rainfall triggers flooding in China’s northern Shanxi province.
- Authorities on the La Palma island order around 750 residents to evacuate their homes, as a river of lava threatens to engulf more neighborhoods.
Oct. 15:
- Storm Ballos wreaks havoc across Greece, leaving one person dead and submerging some areas following two days of nonstop rain.
- The volcanic eruption on the La Palma island unleashes what scientists describe as a “lava tsunami” as the eruption continues to intensify.
Oct. 18
- The death toll from flash floods and landslides in the southern Indian state of Kerala rises to 28.
Oct. 19:
- The number of rain-related deaths in different parts of India rises to 54.
Oct. 20:
- Japan's largest active volcano Mt. Aso erupts, spreading ashes up to 1 kilometer radius (0.6 miles), according to the country's weather agency.
Oct. 23:
- At least four people are killed in heavy rains in the capital of the Ivory Coast.
Oct. 25:
- The death toll from flash floods and landslides in northern India last week rises to 72.
Oct. 26:
- A nor'easter, the extratropical cyclone, hits the east coast of the US, causing high water levels and strong winds in the northeast region.
Oct. 27:
- The La Palma volcano continues to erupt with force, spewing lava 600 meters (1,968 feet) into the air and intensifying seismic activity.
