ISLAMABAD (AA) - Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said his country is considering buying more arms from South Korea, local media reported Tuesday.

Pevkur made the remarks during an interview with Yonhap News Agency as he held talks with South Korean Acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.

"Estonia is buying today already quite a significant (amount) of military equipment, more specifically K9s (howitzers) from Hanwha, and we are exploring the options to buy even more equipment and artillery systems," Pevkur said.

He did not share further details of which arms systems his country is considering buying, however.

In 2018, Estonia signed an agreement with South Korea to buy 155mm self-propelled howitzers, becoming the ninth country to acquire the weapons system along with Australia, Türkiye, India, Egypt, Finland, Norway, Poland and Romania.

Estonia has so far received 24 K9 howitzers and plans to take delivery of an additional 12 by next year.

On Monday, Pevkur met with Kim in Seoul and discussed bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries, including ways to expand defense cooperation.
