EU adds $3.8B to its military aid budget
Decision aims to continue arms support for Ukraine, says Council of European Union
By Agnes Szucs
BRUSSELS (AA) – The European Union added on Monday €3.5 billion ($3.8 billion) to its military aid fund to help Ukraine.
The EU foreign affairs ministers “adopted a decision increasing the overall financial ceiling of the European Peace Facility (EPF) by €3.5 billion,” the Council of the European Union said in a statement.
The move raised the military fund’s total budget to €12 billion, which is the second increase since the financial instrument was set up in 2021.
“This decision sends a clear political signal of the EU’s enduring commitment to military support for Ukraine and others,” the statement added.
The EU has already allocated €4.6 billion in military support for Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s war last year in February.
