Eurostar to operate all services after Channel Tunnel disruption, delays possible

ISTANBUL (AA) - Eurostar said Wednesday it plans to operate all scheduled services between London and continental Europe, a day after a technical incident disrupted rail traffic through the Channel Tunnel.

In a statement published on its official website, the operator said: “We plan to run all our services today, but due to the repercussions, there may still be delays and last-minute cancellations.”

Rail traffic was severely affected on Tuesday after a technical problem halted services for several hours during the busy end-of-year travel period.

Eurostar announced a gradual resumption of operations later in the day, but warned that issues with the overhead power supply persisted, urging passengers to postpone their journeys where possible.

The disruption left many travelers stranded, with some services arriving several hours late, according to French media reports.

Eurostar, which operates high-speed passenger trains linking the UK with France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, said it carried a record 19.5 million passengers in 2024 — an increase of around 850,000 compared with the previous year.

The company is currently the sole passenger operator using the Channel Tunnel, though several firms have in recent months announced plans to launch competing services on the route.

Passengers are advised to check real-time updates and allow extra time for travel as services continue to normalize.
