Eurozone inflation confirmed at 2.9% in December

Consumer price index rises 0.2% month-on-month as initially estimated, 2nd reading shows

Eurozone's annual consumer inflation in December was confirmed at 2.9%, according to a second reading released on Wednesday.

The figure increased from over 2-year low of 2.4% in November, Eurostat data showed.

Energy prices fell 6.7% from the prior year in December, following November's 11.5% decline while food costs grew at a slower pace with 6.1%.

Annual consumer inflation in the EU came in at 3.4% in December, accelerating from 3.1% in the previous month.

The lowest annual rates were registered in Denmark (0.4%), Italy and Belgium (both 0.5%), while highest rates were seen in Czechia (7.6%), Romania (7.0%) and Slovakia (6.6%).

On a monthly basis, the eurozone's consumer price index rose 0.2% in December, as initially estimated.
