Explosions heard in Syrian capital as rocket lands near Mezzeh airport
No casualties or damage reported

ISTANBUL (AA) - A rocket landed near Mezzeh Military Airport in the Syrian capital Saturday evening, causing explosions heard across parts of Damascus, official media reported.
A security source told the state-run Alikhbariya TV that the sound of explosions in Damascus was the result of a rocket fired by unidentified gunmen that fell in the airport’s vicinity.
No casualties or damage were reported.
Authorities did not provide further details on the origin of the rocket. No party claimed responsibility.
The explosions came as Syria’s new administration attempts to tighten security across the country following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024 after 24 years in power.
Assad fled to Russia, marking the end of the Baath Party’s rule since 1963. A transitional administration headed by President Ahmad Al-Sharaa took office in January 2025.
