Finland summons Israeli ambassador over gunfire during diplomats’ visit to Jenin
Coalition partner party urges government to recognize Palestine as state

ATHENS (AA) - Finland summoned the Israeli ambassador in Helsinki over the Israeli gunfire during diplomats’ visit to Jenin in the West Bank on Wednesday, local media reported on Thursday.
Citing Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, public broadcaster YLE reported that Finland demanded an explanation from Israel for this "serious, reprehensible incident."
Finland has also raised concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza with the ambassador, it added.
Anders Adlercreutz, the leader of the Swedish People’s Party, one of the partners in the coalition government, urged the government to recognize Palestine as a state, the report added.
Israeli forces on Wednesday opened fire to intimidate a foreign diplomatic delegation upon its arrival at an entrance to the Jenin refugee camp.
According to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, the delegation included diplomats from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the EU, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, and the UK, along with representatives from several other countries.
