Finland's state-owned gas firm announces to stop LNG import from Russia
Gasum's decision comes after European Union approved 14th package of sanctions against Moscow on Monday
By Yasin Gungor
ISTANBUL (AA) – Finland's state-owned energy company Gasum on Tuesday announced that it will no longer import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia from July 26.
The decision came after the European Union approved the 14th package of sanctions against Russia on Monday.
The new sanctions prohibit the purchase or import of LNG from Russia through EU terminals that are not connected to the EU gas network.
Gasum said in a statement that it will comply with all sanctions imposed by the EU.
"The sanctions adopted by the EU do not allow Gasum to terminate its agreement with Gazprom export, but constitute a force majeure on the purchase or import of Russian LNG to off-grid terminals," the company said.
The EU's latest sanctions package aims to further restrict energy imports from Russia in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
