BERLIN (AA) - German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock discussed Algeria’s potential for green energy Thursday with her Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf.

Following their meeting in the capital Berlin, a joint press conference was held.

Baerbock pointed to Algeria's potential to build a "green energy bridge over the Mediterranean" and to cooperate with Europe in the field of renewable energies as well as green hydrogen.

She emphasized that Algeria a lot of potential in renewables.

She noted that last winter, when everyone in Germany was concerned about energy amid the Russia-Ukraine War, Algeria stood by Europe with its gas shipments.

Baerbock also mentioned that they discussed the situation in Sudan, saying the parties in the North African country have rejected peaceful solutions and that the conflict must come to an end.

"We are particularly concerned about Darfur. The United Nations sees the first signs of ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity," she said.

She also said they are working to stop the escalating violence in Sudan, noting that Germany has increased its humanitarian aid to the country and the region to €200 million ($219 million).

Turning to Russia, Baerbock said it has ruthlessly violated Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"Russia's imperialist war has no justified reasons. If we do not stand together internationally against this blatant violation of international law, no country in the world will be able to sleep peacefully anymore."
