Former MAGA loyalist accuses Trump of abandoning ‘America First’ agenda

Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene says Trump prioritizes big donors over ordinary Americans, media reports

ANKARA (AA) – A once-staunch ally of US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized him for straying from his core supporters, saying his policies no longer reflect the America First platform that propelled his political rise, media reports said on Sunday.

In an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene —who voted with Trump 98% of the time before a recent split — said the president has shifted his priorities toward corporate interests.

“Those are the areas that are still getting everything they want, while the people, we’re still out here saying: ‘We want to see action on areas for the American people, not for the major industries and the big donors,’” CBS quoted her as saying.

Greene said affordability and healthcare access remain major concerns for her constituents, leading her to recently side with Democrats to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies.

“I never imagined I would be standing with Democrats on healthcare,” she acknowledged.

Greene is also the only Republican in Congress to publicly describe the war in Gaza as a “genocide,” and she voted against the Antisemitism Awareness Act.

“We don’t have to get on our knees and say it over and over again,” she said noting that she has voted to denounce antisemitism in the past.

She further claimed Trump was “extremely angry” when she backed the release of sealed files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Greene described receiving threats against her family after Trump labeled her a “traitor,” saying: “The subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words: ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene.’”

Despite the rift, Greene insisted her popularity remains strong in her district and ruled out a future presidential run.

“Zero desire,” she told 60 Minutes. “I would hate the Senate. I’m not running for governor.”

“I don’t know what’s next,” she added. “Surprise, surprise. I’m not your politician with a whole itinerary of plans or political ambitions.”
