France issues travel warnings for Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine
Advisory comes amid fear of wider conflict in region after airstrike on Iran's consulate in Syria
By Burak Bir
LONDON (AA) - France has urged its citizens to refrain "absolutely from traveling" to Iran, Lebanon, Israel, or Palestinian territories in the coming days over risks of military escalation, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
Citing the rising tension in the Middle East, the ministry, in a statement, asked French nationals to not travel to Iran, Lebanon, Israel, or the Palestinian territories "in the coming days."
The statement also said that the return of diplomatic staff's families from Tehran and a ban on missions by French officials to those countries are two other measures endorsed by Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne.
It comes amid fear of a wider conflict in the region especially after seven members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two top generals, were killed in an airstrike on Iran's consulate in Syria.
Iran has accused Israel of carrying out the attack and vowed to respond. Israel, however, has not officially claimed responsibility for the strike.
