Franco-Moroccan writer wins France's top literary prize

Only four women have won prestigious Prix Goncourt in last 20 years

PARIS (AA) – A Franco-Moroccan novelist and journalist won France’s top literary prize on Thursday.

Leila Slimani won the Prix Goncourt for her second novel, Chanson Douce [Soft Song].

In her psychological thriller based on true story, Slimani tells the tale of Louise, a poor Dominican widowed nanny, who murdered two children in her care in 2012.

During the last 20 years, only four women have won the Prix Goncourt.

Separately, Yasmina Reza, a French dramatist, screenwriter and actress best known for her brief satiric plays, won the Renaudot Prize for her novel Babylone.
