French far-right parties fail to form coalition for elections

ISTANBUL (AA) - French far-right parties have failed to form a coalition for the upcoming early elections, Marion Marechal of the Reconquest party announced on Tuesday.

Marechal announced her efforts to create a grand coalition of right-wing parties to challenge French President Emmanuel Macron and the left-wing bloc.

She met with Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella of the National Rally party and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan of France Arise.

Marechal said that while negotiations almost led to an agreement, Bardella later said National Rally withdrew its support and refused any association with Eric Zemmour of Reconquest, leading to the collapse of the proposed alliance.

Marechal expressed her disappointment at this decision and assured Reconquest members, activists, and voters of her continued commitment to their cause.

In the French leg of the European Parliament elections, the far-right National Rally came in first with 31.37% of the vote, with Macron's Renaissance party trailing in second with 14.60%.

After the results were announced, Macron announced his decision to dissolve parliament and call early elections, set for June 30 and July 7.
