G-7 leaders condemn Iran’s attack on Israel: EU's Charles Michel
Charles Michel says immediate ceasefire in Gaza would make a difference in Middle East
By Giovanni Legorano
ROME (AA) -- The leaders of the G-7 group of nations unanimously condemned last night's missile and drone attack perpetrated by Iran on Israel, the European Council President Charles Michel said.
“With #G7 leaders, we unanimously condemned Iran’s unprecedented attack against Israel, “Michel wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.
“All parties must exercise restraint. We will continue all our efforts to work towards de-escalation,” he added.
Michel also called for an end of hostilities in Gaza.
“Ending the crisis in Gaza as soon as possible, notably through an immediate ceasefire, will make a difference,” he wrote.
Michel said that the situation in the Middle East, including Lebanon, will be discussed at the European Council next week.
Last night, Iran flooded Israel with rockets and suicide drones in retaliation for an attack to its embassy in Syria, which killed several high-ranking officials of the Iranian regime.
Israel’s army said 99% of these launches were intercepted and destroyed, with the help of US, French and British systems.
An emergency, remote G-7 meeting was set up by the rotating Italian Presidency of the group for Sunday afternoon.
