Georgia hits record 26,000 new COVID-19 infections

TBILISI, Georgia (AA) - Georgia registered on Wednesday 26,320 new COVID-19 infections, its highest single-day tally since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Health Ministry.

The Eurasian country's total caseload jumped to more than 1.22 million, and 44 more related deaths pushed the fatality count to 15,060. Active coronavirus cases currently stand at 180,031.

Nearly 2.8 million vaccine doses have been administered, and over 1.22 million people, or about 33% of the population, are fully vaccinated.

The EU and WHO recently donated medical equipment, including 2,000 pulse oximeters and 180 oxygen concentrators, to Georgia to help it fight the disease.​​​​​​​
