TBILISI, Georgia (AA) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his German counterpart Olaf Scholz discussed the Russia-Ukraine war during a telephone conversation, Georgian prime minister’s office said Tuesday.

"The sides discussed the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and, as a result, the deteriorating security environment in the Eastern European region,” it said in a statement. “Irakli Garibashvili stressed the importance of joint efforts of the international community and world leaders to end the war as soon as possible.”

Garibashvili and Scholz also discussed Georgia's integration with the EU and regional developments.

Russia's war against Ukraine, which began Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 925 civilians have been killed during the war in Ukraine and nearly 1,500 others have been injured, according to the UN's tally.

The international body warns, however, that the true toll is "considerably higher."

Over 3.5 million people have so far fled Ukraine amid Russian attacks, according to the UN refugee agency.
