Georgian premier says joining sanctions against Russia to destroy country's economy
Sanctions against Russia would harm our national interests, Irakli Garibashvili tells Qatar Economic Forum in Doha
MOSCOW (AA) – Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said his country's economy would be destroyed if the republic imposed sanctions on Russia.
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, Garibashvili stressed that the introduction of sanctions against Russia would harm Georgia's national interests.
"Our share in Russia's foreign trade turnover is 0.3%. So what is the logic? This (the introduction of sanctions against Russia) would destroy (Georgia's economy), would harm our national interests, the interests of our country," he stressed.
On Feb. 25, 2022, Garibashvili announced that he had no plans to impose sanctions on Russia.
In March last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recalled the ambassador from Tbilisi for “not normal position” of the Georgian authorities on the issue of sanctions.
