German climate activists spray colored water onto Transport Ministry building
Last Generation members use fire engine to hose colored water at facade of ministry building in central Berlin
BERLIN (AA) – German climate activists used a fire engine to spray colored water at the facade of the Transport Ministry on Tuesday, protesting the government’s insistence on using fossil fuels.
Members of the Last Generation group parked the fire engine outside the ministry building in central Berlin, and sprayed colored water onto the building until police arrived at the scene.
Jakob Beyer, spokesperson of the group, slammed German Transport Minister Volker Wissing for ignoring growing calls for action on climate change.
“Wissing rigorously refuses to implement laws passed by the German parliament on climate protection,” he said.
Beyer also said Wissing and his pro-business FDP party blocked the EU's plan to ban the sale of new gasoline- and diesel-powered cars as of 2035.
The Last Generation activists are known for their extreme actions and radical protests to draw attention to the climate change.
Members of the group glued their hands to famous paintings in museums and blocked highways and even runways at airports to attract media attention.
The climate activists are heavily criticizing the German government for not taking serious measures to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit), but further investing in fossil fuel infrastructure, endangering the future of humankind.
