BERLIN (AA) - A young right-wing extremist was arrested over attack plans in central Germany, authorities said on Monday.
The 18-year-old suspect was arrested last week in Limburg-Weilburg district, close to the western city of Frankfurt, the police said in a statement.
“The investigations so far have revealed that the accused has a strong, violent, antisemitic and right-wing extremist attitude,” the police said.
According to the authorities, the right-wing extremist recently disclosed his plans in chat groups, and said that he will kill people in pursuit of his political goals.
During searches in his apartment, the police seized weapons and ammunition purchased by the suspect, as well as numerous digital storage media, computers and cell phones.
According to the authorities, neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists pose the biggest threat to Germany’s democracy and domestic security.
In 2022, right-wing extremists committed 23,493 crimes and carried out 1,170 violent attacks targeting migrants, refugees, or political opponents. At least 675 people were injured in those attacks.
