Germany decries drone attack on US forces on Jordanian-Syrian border

BERLIN (AA) - Germany has condemned Sunday's deadly drone attack on US forces near the Jordanian-Syrian border, and urged Iran to take steps to de-escalate the tensions.

“We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms,” German Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer said on Monday, adding that Germany stands in solidarity with the US and Jordan.

“We expect Iran to finally use its influence on its allies in the region to prevent an uncontrolled conflagration, in which nobody can have an interest,” Fischer said, during a regular press briefing in Berlin.

The US Central Command (CENTOM) said three service members were killed and 28 others injured in an attack on the Al-Tanf US military base.

An Iraqi group calling itself The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iran dismissed claims of its involvement in the attack, and a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tehran “does not interfere” in the decision-making of groups in the region on “how to support the Palestinian nation.”
