Remaining glaciers shrunk to fraction of their original size, says new report

ANKARA (AA) – Germany lost one of its five glaciers to the extremely hot weather experienced this summer, according to a recent report.
The ice on the southern Schneeferner in southern Bavaria has become too thin and consequently, it is not considered a glacier anymore, said NTV channel, citing a report by the Bavarian Academy of Science.
It is expected to disappear completely, it added.
Moreover, the report said the remaining four glaciers in the country are also at the risk of melting.
Unusual volumes of melting are being observed in other parts of the Alps, noting that one of the biggest glaciers of the Austrian Alps lost 5% of its volume only this year.
The remaining four glaciers in the country shrunk to a fraction of their original size, it warned.
