Germany promises swift support for earthquake victims in Türkiye
We will do everything to send assistance quickly for earthquake victims, Chancellor Scholz says ahead of EU leaders summit in Brussels
BERLIN (AA) - Germany on Thursday promised swift support for Türkiye after the devastating earthquakes that claimed over 12,500 lives, and left more than 60,000 people injured.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels ahead of a summit of EU leaders, Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed grief over the loss of lives, and stressed that they will stand in solidarity with Türkiye.
“We will do everything to quickly organize our help all together, and we will also do everything for the reconstruction of destroyed areas,” Scholz said.
At least 12,873 people were killed and 62,937 others injured in two strong earthquakes which jolted southern Türkiye on Monday.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep,
Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
