Germany's employment up 0.3% in Q4

Number of employed up 1% in 4th quarter year-on-year, statistical office says

ANKARA (AA) - Germany's employment rose 0.3% in the fourth quarter from the previous quarter, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted number of people in employment rose 157,000, or 0.3%, in the third quarter but it remained below pre-pandemic levels, Destatis said in a statement.

"Compared with the fourth quarter of 2019, the last quarter before restrictions were imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany, the number of persons in employment fell by a seasonally adjusted 0.4%, or 172,000, in the fourth quarter of 2021," it added.

The number of people in employment was up by 434,000, or 1%, in the fourth quarter, compared the same period in 2020, it said.

There were roughly 45.4 million people in employment in the fourth quarter, Destatis noted.
