Frank-Walter Steinmeier listens to medical staff, citizens of Palestinian origin who left war-devastated Gaza in recent weeks

BERLIN (AA) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday met with the German citizens who were recently evacuated from the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Ahmed Abu Nada, chief of vascular surgery at Al-Shifa Hospital, told Anadolu after the meeting that they had a good meeting, where they had the opportunity to inform President Steinmeier about the dire conditions in Gaza.
"I very much hope that the international community will see both sides of this issue, will not take a one-sided approach and will not overlook the humanitarian situation,” he told Anadolu.
Abu Nada said they performed surgeries under extremely difficult conditions at Al-Shifa Hospital, they had to decide who to treat first, and many wounded patients lost their lives.
He said the situation was so catastrophic that many corpses were on the courtyard outside the hospital for several days, even dogs were eating corpses on the streets.
Khitam El-Danaf, a German citizen of Palestinian origin, who traveled to Gaza for a family visit before the war started, said it was “like a hell” and she still cannot believe that they survived.
“Gaza has turned into a hell, everything has been bombed, there is no food, there is no medical care, there is no security, nothing has left,” she told Anadolu.
“I hope that the German authorities, and the Germans will soon see the real situation clearly. The Palestinian people are suffering in Gaza, and also in the West Bank. The scale of suffering is immense,” she said.
