ACCRA, Ghana (AA) – A young Ghanaian entrepreneur and media personality has completed an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest sing-a-thon.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum sang for an incredible 126 hours and 52 minutes, surpassing the record of 105 hours set by renowned Indian singer Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
Afua began her singing marathon at midnight on Sunday, Dec. 24, and continued until 7 a.m. on Dec. 29, captivating the attention of Ghanaians and making headlines in the Christmas season.
Many witnessed her remarkable effort, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who visited her at the Akwaaba village to show his support.
Expressing her gratitude to those who supported her, Afua said: “I want to thank everyone who participated in this attempt, from my family, team, volunteers, the media, and the Ghana Tourism Authority. It has been a smooth journey and a very successful one.”
Afua hopes that her achievement will inspire young people in Ghana to pursue their passions and take on new challenges. “There are many things you can try,” she emphasized.
Now that Afua has completed her record attempt, the Guinness World Records will verify and confirm officially whether she meets all the criteria needed to record her effort. She will become the new world record holder for the longest individual singing marathon if deemed successful.
