ISTANBUL (AA) - The price of gold climbed to nearly $1,950 per ounce on Thursday after Russia began its military incursion into Ukraine.
While it was trading at $1,890 on Wednesday, it rose sharply in the morning in reaction to Russia's air, naval, ground, and cyber offensive on Ukraine.
Explosions were reported in numerous Ukrainian provinces, including the capital Kyiv, early Thursday, after Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of a "special military operation" in the Donbas region.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced in the morning that it is employing "high-precision weapons" to disable Ukraine's air defense systems, military airports, and air force.
The price of gold per ounce surpassed $2,050 in August 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
