Greece calls for ‘thorough investigation’ into Israeli airstrike on camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah
Athens also calls for ‘immediate’ cease-fire in Gaza, urgent entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, release of all Israeli hostages

ATHENS (AA) - Greece on Thursday called for a “thorough investigation” into the Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced people in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, that left dozens of people dead on Sunday.
“We call for a thorough investigation which will shed light into the exact circumstances of this attack,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Greece reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire, respect of humanitarian and international law by all parties, urgent entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and release of all hostages held by Hamas,” the statement said.
The airstrike on a tent camp housing displaced Palestinians in Rafah killed at least 45 civilians, mostly women and children, and injured around 300 others last Sunday.
Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the enclave.
More than 36,200 Palestinians have since been killed in Gaza, mostly women and children, and over 81,700 injured, according to local health authorities.
Nearly eight months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in its latest ruling has ordered it to immediately halt its operation in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6.
