Greece fully supports Ukrainian gov't: Greek premier
Country ready to accept ethnic Greek refugees as well as Ukrainians while also ready to send aid, says Mitsotakis
By Magda Panoutsopoulou
ATHENS (AA) - Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his country's full support of Greece to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s government in a phone call on Monday, according to his office.
The call, initiated by the Ukrainian leader, focused mainly on the adverse effects of the war, while Mitsotakis told Zelenskyy that Greece is ready to accept Ukrainian and ethnic Greek refugees and also ready to send aid to Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed the dramatic situation where the Greek communities live as well as the need to open a humanitarian corridor for the safe exit of those left behind.
Mitsotakis expressed his concern over the safe movement of the Greek consul general in Mariupol and the others trapped in the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) building.
He also underlined that the EU sent an important political message of support from France the previous week regarding Ukraine's EU prospects, also noting that the full implementation of the sanctions by all partners and allies will help put pressure on the Russian side to stop the attacks.

Meanwhile, in a video post on Instagram, Mitsotakis announced that he tested positive for coronavirus earlier the same day.
"Lately we have all been occupied with the war in Ukraine and the high prices. But the coronavirus is still here. In the daily test that I did this morning I came out positive and as a result I will be isolating at home and will work from there. I want you to remember that the triple vaccination provides the best possible safety against serious illness and I am sure that everything will go well and I will be in my office again very soon," he noted.
