ATHENS (AA) – Greece’s Supreme Court barred the far-right Spartans party from competing in the European elections that will be held on June 6-9, local media reported on Wednesday.

The decision was taken over Spartans’ alleged ties with the banned far-right Golden Dawn party, according to public broadcaster ERT.

Of the 46 parties that sought final approval from the court to run in the European elections, apart from Spartans, 14 were also excluded for not depositing the required fee of €20,000 ($21,367).

Earlier on Wednesday, far-right independent lawmaker Konstantinos Floros was arrested for physically attacking another far-right lawmaker Vassilis Grammenos of the Greek Solution party at parliament, the broadcaster reported.

Facing criminal charges of assaulting a member of parliament, which is not covered by parliamentary immunity, Floros will appear before the prosecutor, it added.
