ATHENS (AA) – The seismic activity in the area around the Greek islands of Santorini and Amorgos is gradually decreasing, local media reported on Monday.
Remarking that over 23,500 tremors of various magnitudes were recorded so far in the area since early February, the University of Athens Seismic Laboratory added that the activity is showing a gradual decline both in the daily number of tremors and the maximum magnitude, according to the public broadcaster ERT.
Seismic activity continues to occur in the same focal area, mainly southwest of Anydros, an inhabited island around Santorini without any new microseismical outburst having been observed since Feb. 15, it added.
