Greek far-right party under investigation for allegedly forging signatures in its formation

ATHENS (AA) - A Greek far-right party is under investigation for allegedly forging signatures in its formation declaration, media reports said Tuesday.

In response to a question by a lawmaker in parliament, Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis disclosed that the case against the Voice of Reason party was launched in January and is under review by a prosecutor, according to the Kathimerini newspaper.

He said the investigation followed a complaint of possible forgery, and authorities are examining the authenticity of submitted signatures.

Photocopies of the party’s formation declaration, including citizens’ signatures, were forwarded from the Supreme Court to the Interior Ministry, which is legally responsible for matters related to elections and political parties.

The Voice of Reason is a far-right ultranationalist political party that was founded in 2023 by Afroditi Latinopoulou, a former New Democracy candidate, lawyer and ex-tennis player.

It advocates strict immigration controls, deportation of undocumented migrants, opposition to "woke" culture and same-sex marriage, economic incentives for Greek families to combat population decline and the death penalty for severe crimes.

Voice of Reason won 0.43% of the vote in the 2023 national elections and surged to 3.2% in the 2024 European Parliament elections, securing Latinopoulou a seat in the Patriots for Europe group.

Recent polls show its support at around 8%.
