ATHENS (AA) – Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi met in Athens on Wednesday and discussed bilateral relations and regional developments with a focus on Israeli attacks on Gaza.
In a joint press conference, Gerapetritis stressed that a cease-fire Gaza, where Israel has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians since last October, is desired by Greece and the entire world.
“This can only be achieved if there is a clear and sustainable vision for the establishment of a Palestinian state that will simultaneously guarantee Israel's security,” he said.
He said he also proposed the formation of a task force comprising Arab and European foreign ministers, who will have a mediating role, devising a framework of the peace process, a plan for peace.
Safadi, for his part, emphasized that destruction of Gaza and killing of civilians would not contribute to peace and security of Israel and the region, arguing that Tel Aviv was systemically violating international law. He said the continuation of the war showed the inability of international institutions.
