ATHENS (AA) - Greek main opposition SYRIZA party continues to lose popularity, according to an opinion poll released on Monday.
The survey conducted by Alco pollsters on behalf of major Greek private broadcaster Alpha indicated that the SYRIZA holds the third spot with 11.8%, following the social democratic opposition PASOK party whose support rate stands at 12.2%, and the ruling conservative New Democracy (ND) party which leads with 30.3%.
According to the survey, the Greek Communist Party (KKE), the major orthodox Marxist-Leninist party in the country, grew its support rate to 9.7%.
Earlier in the day, Katerina Papanatsiou, who served as deputy finance minister from 2016 to 2019, announced her departure from SYRIZA, according to state-run AMNA news agency.
On Dec. 5, 2023, 11 lawmakers, including former ministers, who left the main opposition SYRIZA party in November announced the formation of the New Left party after accusing Stefanos Kasselakis of running the party "undemocratically."
