Hamas condemns Israeli, US airstrikes in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian group Hamas condemned on Sunday Israeli attacks in Syria and Lebanon and US airstrikes in Yemen.

According to the Israeli public broadcaster KAN, the Israeli army launched over 200 airstrikes in Syria, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip in the last two days.

The attacks came as the US escalated its airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen over the group’s attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, killing at least 79 people and injuring over 100 others.

These attacks “are an extension of the ongoing aggression against our Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of states and international laws,” Hamas said in a statement.

“This escalation comes in parallel with the daily massacres in the Gaza Strip and the (Israeli) occupation's crimes in the West Bank," Hamas said, calling for a unified Arab and Islamic action “to put an end to the enemy's arrogance and ongoing crimes."

More than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,000 injured in a surprise aerial campaign by Israel on Gaza since Tuesday, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.

Nearly 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 113,000 injured in a brutal Israeli military onslaught on Gaza since October 2023.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
