GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - Senior Hamas member Musa Abu Marzouk has slammed what he called the “shameful” position of the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority (PA) amid Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
"We expected a lot from (Lebanese) Hezbollah and our brothers in the West Bank, but we are dismayed by the shameful position of our brothers in the Palestinian Authority," Abu Marzouk said in an interview with Al Jazeera television aired late Sunday.
“There are good voices among the PA officials, but the rest of the voices claim too much,” he added.
The Hamas leader said he was told by many “foreigners” that some PA members and some Arab countries “were secretly urging the West to eliminate Hamas."
Israel has launched a massive campaign of aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Palestinian group Hamas into Israeli territory on Oct. 7.
More than 9,400 people have been killed in the conflict, including 8,005 Palestinians, mostly children and women, and over 1,400 Israelis.
Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are grappling with shortages of food, water, fuel and medicine due to Israel’s blockade of the enclave.
