Health situation in Gaza 'deteriorating day by day': Doctors Without Borders
Providing health services under continuous bombardments 'very difficult,' says medical charity's deputy coordinator
By Mummet Ikbal Arslan
GENEVA (AA) - The health situation in Gaza is "deteriorating day by day" as airstrikes and bombings continue, a deputy medical coordinator of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Gaza told Anadolu.
"We are trying our best to provide health services to the patients in MSF hospital, but the situation is really difficult, the population is under continuous bombing and airstrikes," Mohammed Abu Mughaisib said.
Mughaisib said many wounded patients need long-term treatment and specialized, reconstructive surgery as their wounds are "very critical."
Stressing that they are not able to access the hospitals in the north, Khan Yunis and Gaza City, he said they hope for a cease-fire, enabling them to reach those hospitals and make them refunctioning.
On humanitarian aid, he said the supplies are "not enough," calling for an increase in assistance entering the besieged enclave.
Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023 cross-border attack led by the Palestinian group Hamas in which some 1,200 people were killed.
Over 31,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have since been killed besides causing mass destruction, displacement and shortages of necessities.
Egypt, Qatar and the US had sought to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas before the start of Ramadan, but to no avail.
