BEIRUT (AA) - The Lebanese Hezbollah group announced on Friday that it targeted two Israeli military sites off the southern Lebanese border.

Hezbollah said in a statement that its members "targeted a gathering of Israeli soldiers inside the Hadab Yaron military site with appropriate weapons and achieved a direct hit."

It added in a second statement that its fighters "targeted the technical equipment at the Ramia military site with a guided missile and achieved a direct hit.”

Earlier on Friday, the group announced that its air defense units "launched anti-aircraft missiles at Israeli warplanes that entered Lebanese airspace in the southern region, forcing them to retreat and withdraw."

In a statement, the Israeli army said that “a military structure of the Hezbollah organization in the area of Aita al-Shaab was attacked,” without providing any further details.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft raided the outskirts of the town of Aita al-Shaab, targeting an empty house, without providing any further details.

Fears have grown about a full-fledged war between Israel and Hezbollah amid an exchange of almost daily attacks.

The escalation comes against the backdrop of a deadly Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 39,200 people since Oct. 7 last year following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
