Hezbollah says it targeted Israeli military base for 1st time since October 2023

Group launches 1st-ever attack on HaHotrim military base in northern Israel, along with multiple other strikes in region

BEIRUT (AA) - Hezbollah said Tuesday that it targeted the HaHotrim military base in northern Israel, marking the first such attack since hostilities erupted over 13 months ago.

In a series of statements, the group announced that its fighters hit the base, a key Israeli Air Force facility, in the first such attack since Oct. 8, 2023.

The base, located 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) south of the city of Haifa, includes air transport and engine manufacturing units. “We targeted it with a salvo of advanced missiles,” the group said.

Hezbollah also reported launching a drone strike on a logistics base for Israel's 146th Brigade, east of the town of Nahariya.

Additionally, the group launched missile attacks on the Shraga military base near Acre, an artillery position in the Nafeh Ziv settlement, and two military assemblies in the settlements of Shomera and Zar'it. Hezbollah also struck settlements in Kfar Blum, Kfar Yuval, and Dishon.

In southern Lebanon, Hezbollah's air defense systems intercepted two Hermes 450 drones, forcing them to retreat from Lebanese airspace.

On the Israeli side, air raid sirens were activated in Haifa, Acre, Nahariya, and the Upper Galilee in northern Israel due to missile and drone strikes from Lebanon.

Two Israelis were killed on Tuesday evening after a rocket fired from Lebanon struck a building in Nahariya, located in the western Galilee region.

Additionally, two others were slightly injured by shrapnel from an interceptor in the Kabri area of western Galilee, according to Israeli daily Hayom.

Israel has launched a massive air campaign in Lebanon since late September against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation from year-long cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip.

Israel on Oct. 1 expanded the conflict by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
