Hong Kong deluged amid heavy rainfall, 1 dead

Heavy downpours since late Thursday have caused widespread flooding, landslides, roads blocked

ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was left dead as heavy rainfall pounded Hong Kong since late Thursday.

The downpours have caused widespread flooding and landslides, while roads are blocked and malls and train stations flooded.

Hong Kong Observatory recorded the highest one-hour rainfall since records began in 1884, Hong Kong Free Press reported.

One person, found in the sea near Shun Tak Centre, was shifted to hospital where he died.

Hong Kong Director of Fire Services Andy Yeung said: "Firefighters have helped 20 injured people and evacuated 110," according to RTHK News.

The Regional government warned of “extreme conditions” to continue until at least midnight.

Hong Kong Chief Secretary Eric Chan said authorities were “working tirelessly” to mitigate the situation.
