House fire kills 6 of a family, including 4 children, in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - At least 6 people, including 4 children, died in a house fire in the Serbian city of Novi Sad on Friday.

According to local press reports, a fire broke out in a house in the Salajka neighborhood of the city of Novi Sad at night. Fire crews extinguished the fire after a 2-hour intervention.

Police said 6 people, including 4 children aged between 2 and 7, from the same family, died in the burning house.

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said the fire could have been caused by a charging electric scooter.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively investigating all the details of this tragic incident,” said Dacic.

Regional portal N1 reported that neighbors of the family claimed that the firefighters reached the site after about an hour after the first call.

However, the Emergency Management of Novi Sad says that they arrived at the scene in five minutes and that they will investigate the allegations made by the neighbors.
