Humanitarian pause for aid corridor to Gaza is 'right thing' to do: Greek foreign minister

'Human life and dignity have no color, no nationality,' says George Gerapetritis

ATHENS (AA) – Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis on Monday reiterated the immediate need for a humanitarian that would facilitate the creation of an aid corridor to Gaza.

"I think it is time to think about implementing humanitarian pauses to create sustainable humanitarian corridors for delivering humanitarian aid to those in need," Gerapetritis told the press upon his arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

"Human life and dignity have no color, no nationality. It is therefore time to do the right thing," the Greek diplomat added, according to a statement provided by the Greek foreign ministry.

Gerapetritis also said that a family of seven, of Greek descent, was evacuated from Gaza to Egypt on Sunday.

As the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip entered its 38th day, at least 11,180 Palestinians have been killed, including over 7,700 children and women, and more than 28,200 others injured, according to the latest figures by Palestinian authorities in the enclave.

Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques and churches, have also been destroyed or damaged in Israel's relentless air and ground attacks on the besieged territory since a cross-border attack by Hamas last month.

The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,200, according to official figures.
